Share value only
Hold the fund that fell less
Principal is the market value of the shares: shares times price. A dividend is cash the fund pays you. The lines on this page leave that cash out. Reinvest means using dividend cash to buy more shares. That switch is off unless you turn it on. Return of capital means part of a dividend is your own money coming back, so the share price can fall even while cash shows up in your account.
The test starts on Dec 12, 2025. MSTY did a 1-for-5 reverse split on Dec 8, 2025. A reverse split swaps several old shares for one new share. Both MSTY and WNTR have paid a dividend every week since Oct 16, 2025. Dec 12, 2025 is the first weekly close after both of those were already true. Earlier weeks stay out.
- Each week, compare each fund’s price with its price from 7 weeks earlier. On this history, 7 weeks left more share value than any other count from 1 to 12.
- Put 100% of the book in the fund that is up more, or down less. The other fund gets the rest. If the two price changes match, split the dollars in half. A sale and a buy at the same close do not change principal by themselves.
- The first buy is half and half. The rule waits until 7 weeks of prices are in hand before it picks a fund.
- The blue line is simpler. Every week it puts half the dollars in MSTY and half in WNTR. If one fund is worth more than half, it sells some of that fund and buys the other.
- Dividends that week are cash. They are shown apart from share value. They are not used to buy shares unless you turn that on.
- From $50,000, the 7-week plan finished at $44,164.11. The half-and-half line finished at $25,977.01. Plan dividends set aside were $29,023.53. Half-and-half dividends were $23,263.38. Neither line held the starting dollars. No two-fund mix in this test did. Holding STRC at $100 in the weeks both prices fell finished at $36,492.04, which is lower than staying in the two funds. That switch starts off, so the chart shows the two-fund loss.
Play with the rule
The defaults are the pair that left the most share value on this window: look back 7 weeks, and put 100% of the book in the stronger fund. Moving the controls uses the same saved prices.
The stronger fund is the one whose price is up more, or down less, over those weeks. The other fund gets the rest. Until the lookback is full, the buy stays half and half. At 50%, the plan is the same as the blue line.
Plan share value
$44,164.11
Started at $50,000.00 on Dec 12, 2025. Share value finished lower. High was $50,700.23 on May 8, 2026.
Half and half
$25,977.01
Same start, reset to 50/50 dollars every week. Low on that line was $25,977.01.
Plan dividends
$29,023.53
Cash the plan shares paid. It is not added to the gold line.
Half dividends
$23,263.38
Cash the half-and-half shares paid. It is not added to the blue line.
Share value, week by week
The gold line is the stronger-fund plan. The blue line puts half the dollars in each fund every week. Both lines are shares times price. Dividend cash stays off the lines. The dashed line is the starting amount. Hover a point for the mix, the share count, the shares bought or sold, and that week’s dividend split plus the total. Every date includes the year. The chart is the full window.

With these controls, the stronger-fund plan finished at $44,164.11. The weekly half-and-half line finished at $25,977.01. Plan dividends were $29,023.53. Half-and-half dividends were $23,263.38. 2 of 43 plan weeks finished at or above the start. STRC is off, so this is the two-fund result.
Week by week
One row is the last trading day of the week. Share value is the shares you already held, times that week’s prices. The mix and the buy or sell are the choice made at that close. Dates include the year.

The test runs from Dec 12, 2025 through Oct 2, 2026. Each point is the last trading day of the week. Prices and dividends are the free Yahoo chart feed, saved on Oct 3, 2026. Closes are adjusted for splits, including MSTY’s reverse split on Dec 8, 2025, and they are not adjusted for dividends. The model trades at the weekly close and ignores fees. No prices or dividends are filled in.
Second test
Follow MSTR’s 200-day average for 10 days
This block is a second test. The chart above stays as it is. That chart still starts on Dec 12, 2025, after the reverse split, and it still compares the 7-week plan with a half-and-half line.
A simple moving average is the mean of the last 200 daily closing prices of MSTR. Angling up means today’s average is higher than yesterday’s. Angling down means today’s average is lower. A flat day, when the average does not change, counts for neither direction and breaks the streak. After 10 trading days in a row angling up, hold 100% MSTY. After 10 trading days in a row angling down, hold 100% WNTR. A new direction counts only after those 10 days. Until then, stay in the fund you already hold.
Both fund lines below start on Oct 16, 2025 with $50,000. That is the first trading day of the first week both MSTY and WNTR paid a weekly dividend. The dividend just before that weekly run was Sep 25, 2025, 21 days earlier, so the weekly run begins with the Oct 16, 2025 payment. That week ends on Oct 17, 2025. The reverse split on Dec 8, 2025 is later, so this test does not wait for it. The buy is at the Oct 16, 2025 close. That day’s dividend is not collected, because the shares are bought at the close. Later dividends, while the shares are held overnight, are cash. They are kept off the share-value lines.
On Oct 16, 2025 the 200-day average had already been angling down for 29 trading days, so the purple line opens in WNTR and then switches 0 times. The gold line is the same 7-week rule as the chart above, started on this earlier date. It still opens half and half, and it waits 7 weeks of this window before it can move the whole book. Its ending dollars differ from the chart above, because that chart starts over at $50,000 on Dec 12, 2025.
On this shared window the 7-week plan finished with more share value: $41,866.95 versus $24,044.69 for the 200-day switch. The 200-day switch set aside more dividend cash: $39,528.82 versus $34,666.32 for the 7-week plan. Both share-value lines finished under $50,000.

Both lines start at $50,000 on Oct 16, 2025. The gold line is the 7-week stronger-fund plan. The purple line is the 200-day switch. Each point is a trading day, and each line is shares times price. Dividend cash stays off both lines. The dashed line is the starting amount. Hover a day for the mix, the share count, that day’s dividend, and the cash set aside so far.
- 7-week stronger-fund plan
- 200-day average switch
- Starting dollars
The purple fund line can start only once both funds exist and pay weekly. MSTR’s own price history is longer, so the lower chart runs the same 10-day rule on MSTR itself, back to Jul 21, 2022. The 200-day average first exists on Jul 20, 2022. The next trading day is the first day it can be compared with the day before.
When the rule would hold MSTY, this line is long MSTR. When the rule would hold WNTR, this line holds cash. The saved file has MSTR closing prices. Cash is a dollar amount that stays the same while you hold it. A made-up short sale would not be a price from that file, and WNTR has its own price, so this chart does not borrow WNTR to stand in for a falling MSTR. The label is MSTR or cash.
The stand-in starts in cash, because 10 days in one direction have not finished yet. The average first locked in a down streak on Aug 3, 2022. The stand-in was already in cash, so that day did not change the holding. After that it changed holdings 4 times: Mar 9, 2023, Jun 2, 2023, Jun 21, 2023, Sep 19, 2025. It ends on Oct 2, 2026 in cash at $745,627.20. The file has no MSTR dividend list, so this line has no dividends set aside.
MSTR or cash, same 10-day switch
This line is MSTR, or cash. It starts at $50,000 on Jul 21, 2022, the first day the 200-day average can be compared with the day before. When the rule would hold MSTY, the line is long MSTR. When the rule would hold WNTR, the line holds cash. Hover a day for the holding, the share value, and the streak.
